Ambassador Award Scholarship
Fairport High School’s Class of 1964, which graduated 162 members from Minerva Deland High School a little more than a half century ago, has affiliated with the Fairport Foundation to continue its tradition of awarding academic scholarships to FHS seniors.
In the past five years class members and others have donated $3,350 to seven individuals.
The scholarship amounts have ranged from $350 to $750, given to Fairport High School graduates in good standing who meet the following requirements:
- Attend a two- or four-year college or trade/technical school in the fall or winter following their graduation.
- Hold a minimum average of 75%.
- Have one or more members of his/her immediate family (parents, grandparents or guardians) be a graduate of Fairport High School.
- Demonstrate active leadership in school activities, particularly within their graduating class, and attest in a submitted essay to making a good ambassador to the high school and Fairport community in the years after graduation.
The applications are received and processed by the high school guidance department, with identities redacted for anonymity. They are then reviewed by the Class of 1964 scholarship selection committee, which determines the winner.
The scholarship will be paid by certified check from the Fairport Foundation’s account at Canandaigua National Bank. It is presented by selection committee members to the student and/or parent(s) at the high school’s annual awards assembly in June.
All donations are 501c(3) tax-exempt. Make checks payable to: Fairport Foundation, 6 North Main St., Suite 105, Fairport, NY 14450. Be sure to write in the notes field on the check “Class of 1964 scholarship.”
