FHS Class of ’64 Ambassador Award Scholarship

Ambassador Award Scholarship

Fairport High School’s Class of 1964, which graduated 162 members from Minerva Deland High School a little more than a half century ago, has affiliated with the Fairport Foundation to continue its tradition of awarding academic scholarships to FHS seniors.

In the past five years class members and others have donated $3,350 to seven individuals.

The scholarship amounts have ranged from $350 to $750, given to Fairport High School graduates in good standing who meet the following requirements:

  • Attend a two- or four-year college or trade/technical school in the fall or winter following their graduation.
  • Hold a minimum average of 75%.
  • Have one or more members of his/her immediate family (parents, grandparents or guardians) be a graduate of Fairport High School.
  • Demonstrate active leadership in school activities, particularly within their graduating class, and attest in a submitted essay to making a good ambassador to the high school and Fairport community in the years after graduation.

The applications are received and processed by the high school guidance department, with identities redacted for anonymity. They are then reviewed by the Class of 1964 scholarship selection committee, which determines the winner.

The scholarship will be paid by certified check from the Fairport Foundation’s account at Canandaigua National Bank.  It  is presented by selection committee members to the student and/or parent(s) at the high school’s annual awards assembly in June.

All donations are 501c(3) tax-exempt. Make checks payable to: Fairport Foundation, 6 North Main St., Suite 105, Fairport, NY 14450. Be sure to write in the notes field on the check “Class of 1964 scholarship.”

PayPal online payment is available as well using the donate button below. The foundation deducts 5% from each donation for processing.

Fairport’s Veterans Memorial Nears Completion

veteran banners

A little more than 2 years ago, the volunteers of the Fairport Partnership Design Committee were asked by Mayor Fritz May to undertake the project of designing the reconstruction of the Veterans Memorial at Potter Park. Shortly thereafter the Fairport Foundation began the effort of fundraising to help finance the memorial.

Today we welcome the participation of Fairport OCED as they manage the construction of the Partnership’s designs and augment the funds raised by the Foundation. It is this broad-based community effort that has led to what you see today. It is expected that the new Veterans Memorial at Potter Park should be largely completed by this Veterans Day.

We thank the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion as well as the thousands of people across the greater Fairport/Perinton community and beyond who have donated their time, talent, and treasure – in ways large and small – to make this project possible. We also thank the Fairport Boy Scouts, Fairport Teachers Association, Fairport Rotary, Perinton Quilt Guild and dozens of other organizations have helped the Fairport Foundation raise more than $50,000.

This project – its intent and its manifestation in bricks, mortar, and steel – honors the blood, sweat, tears and toil of the all those who served our nation on behalf of our grateful community. We believe that in every way, it represents the best of what Fairport is. We thank you all for your partnership.

A limited number of memorial bricks are still available for purchase. To buy a memorial brick in honor of a veteran, please visit or call (585) 377-6010.
