Train Watching Platform
With a heritage second only to the Erie Canal, Fairport’s history as a railroad town draws railfans from around the globe. Today Fairport is ranked sixth of the top ten busiest rail corridors in the country. Thousands of people come to Fairport each year to watch the trains.
The Fairport Partnership has proposed the construction of a Train Watching Platform in Fairport Junction to serve as a safe gathering place for rail enthusiasts. Research shows that similar rail communities which have formal train watching areas draw from 40,000 to 100,000 visitors each year, providing a positive year round economic impact to those communities.
