Supporting Public Art

The Fairport Public Arts Commission (FPAC) was formed in April 2016 to facilitate the incorporation of public art in the Village of Fairport.  The FPAC oversees the public arts process within the Village, updates the Public Art Plan, and makes approvals and recommendations to the Village Board regarding commissions and investments in the Village’s public artwork collection and programs.

The committee is comprised community leaders, local art and design professionals, and village residents appointed by the Mayor. The committee is committed to promoting a rich, diverse, and stimulating cultural environment to enrich the lives of the village’s residents, business owners, employees and visitors, and to enhance the village’s image both nationally and internationally.

The FPAC has supported the Fairport Office of Community and Economic Development to acquire two art installations for the Thomas Creek Wetland Walk Improvement Project.  Most recently, the FPAC managed the acquisition of the 2019 sculpture Connection by Juan Carlos Caballero-Perez, located in Kennelly Park.  This work is the first of a planned Fairport Public Art Trail on Erie Canal between the village and Perinton Park. The FPAC is currently working with the village and local organizations to identify additional opportunities for art installations and art events throughout Fairport Village.

The FPAC participates in Village activities such as Home for the Holidays, Scarecrow Festival, Canal Days Duck Race and chairs the Annual Canal Days Community Chalk Art Contest.

Learning Links of Fairport was created after Fairport United Methodist Church (FUMC), through Catholic Family Services, sponsored one refugee family from Kenya who emigrated to the U.S. under the approval of President George W. Bush.

The majority of Learning Links of Fairport students live in The Pines of Perinton and come from families of diverse cultures and religious backgrounds from around the world, thus giving it the nickname, “The Little United Nations of Perinton.” Many kids in our program are the fastest adapting English speakers in their families and act as translators for their parents.

Learning Links is approved as a tutoring program by the Fairport Central School District. Partners in Community Development, a local non-profit organization coordinates the KidsCare building and has allowed us to use their facilities on The Pines campus. Although the program is non-denominational, we thank God for all our blessings and are supported by community members, area churches: FUMC, Church of the Resurrection, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mt. Rise, Church of the Assumption, and more. Fairport Rotary and Fairport Area Lion's Club also support Learning Links of Fairport. Our community partner is Fairport Foundation, a 501 (c)3 entity, making your donations tax-deductible.

Officer Anthony Mazurkiewicz Memorial Project

Supervisor Ciaran Hanna announced that the Town of Perinton has established a committee for a permanent memorial in honor of Rochester Police Department (RPD) Officer and long-time Perinton resident Anthony (Tony) Mazurkiewicz. Recently, Hanna and Town Board Members Dave Belaskas, Seana Sartori, Meredith Stockman-Broadbent, and Alex Winner voted unanimously to establish the committee and appoint its members. The committee is tasked with exploring options regarding a permanent memorial in the Town of Perinton and making recommendations for the location and concept to the Town Board.

“Our community displayed an outpouring of community support and compassion following this tragedy, and it is our wish to establish a permanent memorial in the Town of Perinton to honor Tony’s life, memory, and service,” said Hanna. “Tony’s unwavering sense of duty and dedication is tied into the very fabric of our community, and a permanent memorial will help ensure his legacy lives on for generations to come.”
